Choirs & Music

You are most welcome to join either the choir or the music group, please contact the Parish Office.

The Choirs

Our parish is fortunate to have two excellent choirs; the Adult Choir, with a full range of voices, and the young people’s Choir, known as ‘Our Lady of Lourdes Cantores’.

The choirs provide appropriate and good quality music for the liturgy, including Easter and Christmas and other special occasions, and also ensure that the members enhance the singing during the celebration of the Mass.

Both choirs sing at the 11.30 Mass on Sundays. The Cantores sing on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month and the two choirs join together on the other Sundays. New Members are always welcome.

Both choirs practise on Thursday evenings, the Cantores between 7.00 and 8.00pm and the Adult Choir between 8 and 9pm. The Cantores also practise before Mass on Sundays.

The Cantores are a very lively and successful group of girls and boys, up to the age of 18. They are friendly and dedicated, drawn from various schools in the area. They have performed a wide range of works, including Fauré’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, various fun Cantatas, both on their own and with the Adult Choir.

They are in demand to perform at weddings and other special events. They have performed with distinction for the Westminster Diocese, for the Town Council and at many local church and civic events.

The Music Group

The Music Group provides liturgical music, suitable for the 6pm Vigil Mass on Saturdays.  The music group normally plays on all Saturday evenings.

The music group has many enthusiastic and gifted children who play a variety of instruments including the violin, viola, cello, flute, trumpet, clarinet and french horn. There are no regular practice sessions so the musicians learn to sight read quite quickly.

The aim of the Group’s music is to encourage everyone to join in the singing during the Mass.
