Meet and quiz the Green Party candidate Richard Wise

1st May 2015 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Friday 1st May, from 15:00 to 17:30 in the parish hall – your chance to informally meet and quiz the Green Party candidate Richard Wise, for the Hitchin and Harpenden constituency.  Richard will come to our parish and be available to answer questions, and provide information.  All are welcome!
The Green Party manifesto is entitle: “For the Common Good” – Do you know ? Are you curious of what is in it?
This is a chance to see how it measures up to Jesus’ and the church’s social teaching:
In 2008 the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of England and Wales issued a document”The Call of Creation” available from CAFOD from LiveSimply project, saying in the introduction:”In Catholic social teaching the concept of the common good ‘implies that every individual, no matter how high or low, has a duty to share in promoting the welfare of the community as well as a right to benefit from that welfare’ (originally from 1996 “The Common Good and the Catholic Church Social Teaching) .  Therefore, if the environment crisis affects us all, each of us has the responsibility to play our part in addressing that crisis.  What is happening to earth indicates that we must think beyond local and national interests and define “the community” in global terms.  The way we live and the choices we make affect the lives of others: not only human life, in fact, but also the other forms of life found on earth.” …  it ends “The way we live and the choices we make affect the lives of others”, the document shows how we are all affected as the earth’s finite resources are consumed and the environment damaged.   The Bishop’s remind us to be good stewards of the fragile planet, for ourselves and in solidarity with the worlds’ poorest communities who are most vulnerable to the impact of Climate Change.
