Our Lady’s Special Support Group

This is a small team that reaches out to people with learning difficulties, their families and friends. The Group started in Hitchin but now includes other Parishes. Regular meetings often held in members’ homes or the Church Hall. Each meeting has a theme that generally includes a time to think, pray, an activity, a hymn or two and plenty of time to talk.

Aylsford Trip

Our Lady’s Special Support Group has been part of parish life for many years now. Originally founded by Joy Robbins to support families with members with a learning disability the group now also reaches out to people in residential settings including Ashwood Place in Hitchin. In recent years pilgrimages to Lourdes and Walsingham have been arranged as well as a variety of day trips. The photo shows 15 of us on a day out to Aylesford Priory where Mass was concelebrated by Father Tom and served by Anne Chamberlain. An excellent lunch followed and an afternoon exploring the grounds and pottery. The group is well supported by the parish including Tim Bonnett and members of the choir who provide the music at our liturgies, Greg Hewitson who drives our minibus and everyone who supports our coffee mornings.
