Newsletter 22nd September 2024

Dear Friends,

Thank you to those of you who volunteered to be altar servers and readers! More of you are of course very welcome.

We have a wonderful concert for you here at St Mary’s starting at 15h30 on Sunday 22nd September. Opera Integra are coming to perform love songs from different operas. Please have a look at their website: https://operaintegra.org.uk/

Season of Creation

The Season of Creation continues. We are holding a teenage faith-sharing session on Saturday 21st September at 17h00 and it will focus on environmental issues and our duty as Christians to have “rational hope” that together we can halt the environmental degradation and pollution of our air land and sea to protect our planet for all creation. Registration for First Holy Communion

This will take place a week later than planned on 22nd September at 09h30 in the Parish Room. Please remember to bring your children’s baptism certificates and permission from your Parish Priest if you do not live in our Parish.

Old Mobile Phones

The Contact Club has asked us to appeal for old mobile android phones (that still work of course!). Please have a rummage around at home and see if you’ve got any suitable devices and bring them to church. Thank you!

Jam Jars

One of our parishioners is making marmalade for the SVP bazaar (date: 17-18 November). Please would you bring us your jam jars to support this endeavour. Thank you!

Holy Year

As mentioned in an earlier edition, the Holy Year begins on the first Sunday of Advent,1 December. The Papal Nuncio will celebrate Mass that day to initiate this event. In April we will have a Parish Pilgrimage to Rome. There are still places available. I was Ordained to the Priesthood in Holy Year 1975, so this year is so special to me.

I am having a week off this coming week so there will be no weekday Masses.

God bless,  Monsignor Phelim
