Church Music

Church Orchestra

Our Church Orchestra provides music weekly for the 11:45 am Mass and for the major liturgical celebrations.  With the Choir, it organises the Carols by Candlelight each Christmas.

The orchestra is blest with instrumentalists who play a variety of instruments.  Young players are encouraged and their gifts cherished and nurtured.

We are always eager for new players, whatever the standard.  Enthusiasm and commitment matter most.

The orchestra participates in regular parish Music Mornings and in Diocesan Music Days where new music is learnt and good practice and ideas shared.

The choir meets for practice in the church every Monday at 8:15pm.  The choir sings at the 11:45 Mass and at all the major liturgical celebrations.

We also contribute musically to the Fundraising efforts of the parish by our regular concerts:  Songs Sacred and Profane (2012) and Songs of Faith (2013).  Songs of Peace is in preparation.

We also sing now and again at weddings.  Anyone who likes to sing is most welcome – no need to be an operatic star!  As seen above, there is very close liaison between Choir and Orchestra.

Organists and Cantors

Music at our 8.45 am mass on Sundays is led by an enthusiastic and committed team.  This includes a wealth of experienced and talented cantors who lead the singing and also our wonderful church organist who, in addition, plays at other church events, weddings and funerals.

We sing and play a wide variety of music and the current list of our repertoire can be found HERE

This list is by no means endless.  It is intended for reflection, guidance and celebration, a means to open to the Spirit.

Any suggestions, improvements or requests for music are most gratefully accepted.

‘Praise Him with your singing,
Praise Him with your dancing,
Praise God’s Holy Name!’
