Our ‘Specials’ are planned for any parishioner who may be on their own on a Sunday and would like to join other parishioners for lunch in the Parish Centre.
They take place on the first Sunday of each month from 12.45pm.
A signing up sheet is at the back of the church for the two week ends before the lunch date.
Signing up is essential so that the cooks know the numbers to cater for!
There is no fixed charge – just a contribution box.
We have now been meeting for our monthly lunch since July 2001, starting in St Joseph’s Hall before the Parish Centre was built.
About 25 parishioners form the core of the parish community who meet in this way. Some are ‘regulars’ who come every month; others are only able to come for some of the Specials. This means that we average a group of 16 to 18 parishioners on any one month.
It is always a friendly, appreciative group who enjoy each other’s company as well as the excellent meal prepared and hosted by a small group of parishioners.
New volunteers would be most welcome.
Our one regret is that, although we’d love to welcome people from other parishes, it is just not feasible to increase our numbers to include a wider community.
We hope that others will be able to establish something similar.
