The diocese of Westminster recognises that a child who is in Year 9 or above is at a suitable age to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. You may remember that on the day of your child’s Baptism, together with the Godparents, you professed your faith and promised God that your child would be raised in His Church as His son or daughter. At Confirmation it will be your own child making his or her own promise to God in fulfilling His will and living his or her faith all through his or her life. This is a very important time for your child and we highly encourage you support him or her and that you would not force them if he or she does not feel ready to receive the Sacrament just yet. Attached you will find a form that you may wish to share with your child which he or she would need to fill in and you need to sign where appropriate.
We are introducing an exciting new program called Chosen: Your Journey Toward Confirmation. The goal of the program is to offer your child a powerful, life-changing experience as he or she prepares to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is our hope that Chosen will not only offer your child a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Faith, but will also win over their heart at this critical time in their life. The program has been carefully designed to address and answer your child’s fundamental questions about life, and to challenge him or her to embrace a life of faith.
Let’s face it—our world is full of distractions and detours that can easily set a young person on the wrong path. Nothing can take the place of a strong faith in God: not friends, money, or education. It is our faith that gives us our identity and our direction in life. The Church recognises that you, as parents, are the primary educators of your children in matters of faith and morals and the Chosen program offers you a unique opportunity to join your child as he or she journeys through the Catholic faith. To learn more about the program and your role in preparing your child for Confirmation, we invite you to attend a Parent Information Session on Sunday 30th September at 3pm to be held in the Upstairs Hall. The meeting will not only inform you about the programme, but will also offer you ideas and tools to confidently engage and encourage your child during their preparation. At the Information Session, you will receive all the information necessary for you to help and support your child during his or her journey of formation towards Confirmation.
The day and time when we will start the course will be agreed with you on the parents’ meeting. Finally, we invite you to watch a welcome video to parents from Chosen’s author, Chris Stefanick, which is available at ConfirmationStudy.com/parents.
Having a new course and new materials means that the Parish incurs in expenses therefore there will be a charge of £45. The breakdown of the cost is thus divided:
- £ 15 Candidate’s Book
- £ 15 SPEC Retreat
- £ 10 Flowers for Confirmation Day
- £ 5 Refreshments after Confirmation Mass.
Payments can be made by cash or cheque payable to WRCDT. In case your child decides not to pursue the course refunds can be arranged as follows:
- Between 1 October and 31 December: 100%
- Between 1 January and 31 March: 50%
- After the 31 March the sum will not be refunded.
- In case the Confirmation team agrees that your child is not ready for Confirmation a refund will be negotiated with you.
Thank you for your time and interest in this important stage of your child’s spiritual development. We look forward to seeing you at the Parent Information Session.
