Bidding Prayers

Dear readers, please find the bidding prayers below for your preparation to read at Sunday Mass. Sometimes there are last-minute changes to the bidding prayers, for example to mark some event in the news, so please do not bring your own copy with you and check in the sacristy before Mass begins for the final text.

Solemnity of Pentecost – 4th June 2017

Priest:

The Holy Spirit draws the Church into perfect unity, and so with one heart let us turn to the Father with our needs.

Reader:

For our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for Cardinal Vincent and all bishops: that by their faithful celebration of the sacraments the Church will be filled anew with the Holy Spirit.

Lord, in your mercy…

As we elect a new government this week: that the Holy Spirit will inspire our leaders to work for the promotion of justice and the common good.

Lord, in your mercy…

For the victims of war and conflict, that we will learn the lessons of the past and be open always to that lasting peace which is a gift of the Holy Spirit. We pray especially for the peoples of Syria, Iraq and the Holy Land and the Philippines.

Lord, in your mercy…

For the newly Confirmed young people of our parish: that they remain always open to the working of the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

Lord, in your mercy…

For the sick of our parish at home and in hospital, for those who have asked for our prayers and for the intentions of our Sunday Masses: Nora Healy, Edith Bishop, Sebastiana Braganca and Guillermo Romualdo.

Lord, in your mercy…

In silence we place our own intentions before our Merciful Father… (long pause)…

And we turn to Mary, Mother of the Risen Christ, as we pray:

Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia.
Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia.
Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia.
Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

Priest:

Heavenly Father, we place these prayers before you in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon us, who together live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity – 11th June 2017

United by the Holy Spirit, let us turn as one to our heavenly Father and offer him our prayers through Christ his Son.

Reader:

For the Church throughout the world: that she will be renewed in her mission to make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, in your mercy…

For our new government: that our politicians will be helped to ensure that everyone is treated with their rightful dignity as sons and daughters of God.

Lord, in your mercy…

For those who suffer in places of conflict: that the Holy Spirit will bring peace. We pray especially for an end to the arms trade.

Lord, in your mercy…

For ourselves: for hearts open to the full mystery of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Lord, in your mercy…

As we celebrate this week the feast of St Thomas More, we pray for all politicians: for consciences that are well-formed, and for the courage to listen and obey that inner voice that speaks of what is right.

Lord, in your mercy…

On this Day for Life: we pray for protection and reverence for all life, from conception to natural death.

Lord, in your mercy…

For our brothers and sisters unable to receive Holy Communion: that they may never feel deprived of the support and friendship of the Church.

Lord, in your mercy…

For the children of our parish receiving their first Holy Communion at this time: that this gift will join them every more firmly to Christ the Lord.
