The Sacrament of Baptism is the gateway into the Sacramental life of the church. The Baptism of children has its own programme which has 4 stages.
Stage One:
Contacting Sr. Margaret- Sister is available every Monday from 9.30am till 12.30pm to assist in completing the Baptismal Form
Stage Two:
Attending a preparation class in the priests’ house.
Stage Three:
Attending the Welcoming Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 12 noon on the 1st Sunday of the month when you will present your child to the community and the community promises to pray for them
The celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism:
The Baptism Celebration usually takes place on a 1st & 3rd Saturday afternoon in Sacred Heart Church at 1pm.
Requirements for Baptism
- Catholic Parents must present a certificate of their own baptism.
- Parents who live within the parish should be registered for at least six months and should be participants in the faith community and known to the Priests
- Parents who live outside the parish but who have made this their community should be registered for at least six months and should be participants in the faith community and known to the Priests
- Parents who live outside this community and do not practise here must attend the preparation in their own parish and present a letter of permission from their priest stating that they have attended and that permission is given
- A Sponsor (Godparent) must be sixteen years of age or over and must be Baptised and Confirmed in the Catholic Church
- The parents/parent of the child must be a practising Catholic
- There must be one but not more than 2 Sponsors (Godparents)
- A Certificate of Baptism must be shown for each of the Sponsors (Godparents)
