Dear Parents and Confirmation Candidates,
I hope you are all keeping well. Following the latest government announcement, it is still not possible for us to come together in Church. I know some countries have started to open their churches, but that is not the case here and so we have to continue to be patient and wait for advice from the government and the bishops. For the moment our Confirmation Masses scheduled for Friday 9th October at 6.30pm and Saturday 10th October 12.00noon are expected to go ahead, as the bishop has not cancelled them so far. I will let you know of any change or when the dates are definitively confirmed.
Whenever we are able to re-open, it is likely that we will need to continue with social distancing. We may need to reduce the number of family members and friends that can attend the ceremonies. Many of the other precautions currently in place, such as washing hands, wearing a face covering etc, are likely to continue and so we need to prepare ourselves for that.
However, the candidates’ preparation for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation must continue and together we need to keep the faith alive in them and in us. Having discussed it with the team of catechists, we propose that the candidates finish the programme at home. The team of catechists will provide the material for each session, which will consist of a short PowerPoint presentation with instructions; some reading, video material and a prayer/meditation, as well as some proposed work for the candidates to complete and feedback to their catechists, who in turn will feedback to me.
We intend to produce material for 4 sessions starting with the Holy Spirit, as we are approaching the great feast of Pentecost, followed by sessions on Jesus Christ, the Church and the Saints. Once the candidates have received each PowerPoint presentation for the relevant session, they will have 2 weeks to email the catechists their completed work. The deadline will be indicated on the PowerPoint.
I ask that you take these sessions, which we are preparing for you, seriously; to do the work, pray during the sessions and please complete the work on time and send it to the catechist for your group. If you have any questions, please contact your catechist.
Wishing you a blessed feast of Pentecost.
