FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT, YEAR A, 27TH NOVEMBER 2022

Well, here we go again with the build up to Christmas. At present, most adverts on TV are for Christmas things to buy – food/ gifts/ drinks of all kinds. There will be all kinds of noise linked with Christmas. There will be all kinds of good, bad and funny things happening. There will be certain amounts of chaos and wonderful generosity. Now and again, there will be dry empty moments of everything being just noise.

The Gospel of today (Matt 24.37-44) alerts us to open our ears/ hearts/ minds to the celebrating of the birth of Christ into our world.

How quietly it all happened so long ago and the angels are still trying to help us be still and quiet enough to celebrate Christ walking into our lives and hearts.

Not only are we asked to stay awake and listen to the Word of God – Jesus in person is the Word of God – we are invited into the presence of Jesus. Jesus is the essential present of God Father & Spirit.

The Responsorial Psalm (121/122) calls us to go to God’s house. It is there that we find an invitation to/ for peace.

This week I will find quiet times. God bless,

with love and prayers Fr Michael
