‘Chants and Enchantments’ a Luso-Hispanic twist to music and song down the centuries.

‘enCanto’, the Luso-Brazilian duo Luís Peças and João Paulo Ferreira return to London with pianist Claire Tester and their guest performers for a light-hearted evening of music and song travelling from renaissance chant through classical favorites, traditional airs and melodies, to colourful 20th century rhythms, spiced with a refreshing Latin flavour.  They look forward to sharing their evening with you.

PERFORMERS’ CURRICULA VITAE

Luís Peças

Counter-tenor Luís Peças is singer in residence at the World Heritage Monastery of Santa Maria in Alcobaça, Portugal.  Acclaimed for his sensitive interpretation of sacred works, and those of the great Baroque composers, Luís has been invited to sing for private commissions and for public audiences throughout Europe, visiting France, Germany and the UK regularly, as well as receiving a warm welcome from concert-goers across the Atlantic in both the United States and South America.  As well as his concerts in some of Portugal’s most beautiful and historic buildings, Luís has performed in concert halls and cathedrals across Europe, most notably St. Martin-in-the-Fields, one of the best-regarded concert venues in London, the State Opera of Banska Bystrica in Slovakia, and the prestigious Cathédral de Saint-Louis des Invalides in Paris.

João Paulo Ferreira

João, native of Garanhuns in Brazil, now lives permanently in Alcobaça, singing with Luís as half of the duo ‘enCanto’, where he is a rising star in the world of classical music.  Also a counter-tenor, João is already making his mark with the public in areas as diverse as baroque opera, the musical traditions of other cultures, and contemporary and experimental theatre.  João started his international career in 2013 with Nido Delas Artes International Opera Tour of  Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica, a tour he repeated over the summer of 2014.  Since putting his first footprint on European soil in September 2014, João has already established his performance credentials with concerts across Portugal, in France, and at St. Paul’s Covent Garden in the UK.

Claire Tester

Luís and João will be accompanied by Claire Tester.

Claire studied Music at Huddersfield and Manchester universities, specializing in organ and piano, following which she embarked on a long and varied career in music education.  Latterly Claire has been able to indulge her primary passion of accompanying, and she is currently Resident Accompanist at The Sixth Form College, Farnborough, one of the largest and most successful music departments in the country.  Alongside this, she is greatly in demand as piano accompanist for soloists in concert, undergoing examinations or auditions, as well as choral groups and theatre companies, master-classes and recitals throughout the UK and British Isles.  In the last year Claire has performed in St Mark’s Venice, has been accompanist for Julian Lloyd-Webber and for Adrian Dwyer on BBC Radio 3.

In 2010, Claire co-organised the UK debut tour for the Portuguese counter-tenor, Luís Peças, and was Luís’s accompanist for his performances at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, and St Thomas-on-the-Bourne, Farnham when he visited the UK in November 2012.  Since then she has accompanied both Luís and João individually and as the duo ‘enCanto’ in St Paul’s Covent Garden, as well as travelling on several occasions to Portugal to accompany them in concert in the World Heritage listed Monastery church of Santa Maria, Alcobaça and at the historically significant Sanctuary church of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré.
