THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER – WEEK 4 ON THE MASS

Having gathered, listened to the Word of God and brought our gifts to the altar we come to the Eucharistic Prayer.

How many Eucharistic prayers are there?

For many years the Roman Catholic Church used just one Eucharistic Prayer, often referred to as the Roman Canon (c. fourth century).  Today there are eleven Eucharistic Prayers approved for use in England and Wales.  Eucharistic Prayer II is an adaptation of a prayer first known in a document thought to date from the third century.  Eucharistic Prayer III was a new composition, with an especially rich intercessory section where we pray for both the living and the dead.  Eucharistic Prayer IV draws on the prayer traditions of the Church in the East.  In the 1980’s and 90’s these prayers were joined by Eucharistic Prayers for Reconciliation, for Masses with Children, and for Mass with the Deaf.  More recently the Church has approved a further Eucharistic Prayer for Various Needs and Occasions which offers a series of 4 texts.  These texts acknowledge Christ as the Compassion of God and our way to the Father, and recognise the graces the Church receives as she seeks to journey to greater unity on the way of salvation.

OCTOBER 2024 – Thank you to those who came for the meeting

  1. It was agreed at the meeting that St Paul’s is a Welcoming Community but it would be good to have more people join our committed team of Welcomers.  After Easter we will be inviting more parishioners to become part of the Welcoming Team.
  2. The ‘welcome back Sunday refreshments’ in September was felt to be a good initiative and one that we could undertake every couple of months.
  3. Our Parish tool for Evangelization is the Alpha programme.  We will continue to encourage the community to reach out to those who don’t know Christ.  5 of the people attending ‘About Being Catholic’ came through the Alpha sessions which we had in the autumn last year.

Any activities of the parish are dependent on the generosity of parishioners volunteering.

What gifts and talents could you share with the parish?

How could you be more involved in the life of our community?
