PREPARING FOR PENTECOST COME HOLY SPIRIT

After the Ascension Our Lord Himself sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit. We are invited to “join together with one heart in constant prayer” (Acts 1:14), in imitation of Mary

and the disciples in those nine days in the Upper Room between Ascension and Pentecost. With them, we ask Jesus to send afresh his Holy Spirit upon us so that our individual lives, the lives of our families and communities, and

the life of the Church may be renewed. We can pray the following prayers as we prepare to celebrate the great feast of Pentecost next Sunday.

Prayer for Pentecost   Father, pour out Your Spirit upon your people and grant us a new vision of Your glory, a new experience of Your power a new faithfulness to Your Word and a new consecration to Your service so that Your love may grow among us and Your kingdom come through Christ our Lord, Amen.   Lord Jesus, let Your Spirit rest upon our parishes, schools and homes that they may be places of love and truth where the weak are made strong and the strong learn humility and all of us learn the wisdom that alone comes from You. Amen   Holy Spirit, Comforter and Sanctifier, melt our hearts that we may accept Your love. Renew our minds that we may know Your truth. Strengthen our will that we may follow You faithfully, through Christ our Lord. Amen  OLIVE WOOD CARVINGS FROM THE HOLYLANDSaturday 20TH May & Sunday 21st May at all Masses – We are the Good Shepherd Company from the Holy Land (Bethlehem) which is based in Nottingham.  Our goal is to support and help the Christian families in the holy land to stay at work as olive wood carvings is one of the most important source of income for them, as 90% of the Christians rely on this sale.  So by selling their produce here on their behalf, this will prevent the Christians from leaving the country in search of better work opportunities, as a test survey from the bishops of Jerusalem there are only forty-one thousand Christians left in the area.     CELEBRATIONS THIS WEEK Monday 22nd May                      St Rita of Cascia Thursday 25th May                    St Bede the Venerable Friday 26th May                         St Philip Neri Saturday 27th May                     St Augustine of Canterbury   MASS INTENTIONS – A few Mases still available for June.  Please note that if you asked for an intention on a specific date and a funeral is subsequently arranged on that day, the intention will be moved to the next available date.     ROSARY – During this month of May dedicated to Our Lady we are encouraged to pray the Rosary every day.  During the coming week, we pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.   THANKSGIVING MASS – for the First Holy Communion children and families this Sunday at the 10am Mass, followed by a celebration in the hall.
