Why We Can’t Do It Alone: The Church Family & Sunday Mass
Effect on the Child: Their faith is formed on multiple levels, not just intellectual. These sensory memories create a deep, enduring connection to the sacred.
Objective: To answer, “Why Sunday Mass?” with reasons that directly benefit the child’s development.
Key Points & Practical Impact:
It Takes a Village to Raise a Child in Faith:
Practice: Participate in parish family events—picnics, Christmas pageants, Easter egg hunts. Point out to your child, “Look, all these people believe in Jesus like we do!”
Effect on the Child: They feel part of something bigger than themselves. This counters the cultural message that faith is a private hobby and shows it’s a communal journey.
Mass as a Sensory Experience for a Child:
Practice: Even if they don’t understand the homily, they experience the smell of incense, the sound of music and bells, the sight of stained glass and candles, the taste of the Eucharist (when they receive), and the touch of the community sign of peace.
