Jubilee Year 2025
The Jubilee Year began on December 24, 2024, when Pope Francis opened the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The Church first declared a Holy Year in 1300 and has continued ever since. This Jubilee Year will run until January 6, 2026 and is an occasion for the Church to seek renewal, to undergo a ‘reset’. This Holy Year invites us to deepen and renew the place of hope in our lives. Its theme is simply that we are ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ which is meant to be a time to share the hope of the Christian faith for a world suffering the impacts of war, the ongoing effects of COVID-19 pandemic, and the climate crisis. It is intended to be a time to:
- Grow in faith and prayer life
- Re-establish a relationship with God, others, and creation
- Live out the mission of Jesus as stated in Luke 4:16-21
The Bishops’ Conference and CAFOD have produced resources for the Jubilee in the Catholic Church. Visit https://www.cbcew.org.uk/jubilee-2025/ and https://cafod.org.uk/pray/jubilee-2025
