On Monday 16th February 2026 here at Allen Hall, we celebrated the ordination of our brother seminarian, Rene de los Reyes, to the role of Diaconate Deacon for the Diocese of Aberdeen. The diaconate itself is rooted in the early Christian Church. Dating back to the Acts of the Apostles, with the first deacons appointed to assist the apostles. Seminarians are ordained Diaconate Deacons as they journey towards priesthood.
The Diaconate ordination is a significant milestone within the Church, representing a commitment to a life of service and ministry. This process not only marks the formal recognition of an individual’s dedication to serving others, but also emphasizes the vital role deacons play in the Church’s mission. Acting as a bridge between clergy and laity, deacons are called to live out the principles of their faith in practical ways, fostering community engagement and outreach. In this blog post, we will delve into the meaning of diaconate ordination, explore its significance, and highlight the profound impact deacons have within their congregations and beyond.
We were blessed to have Bishop Hugh Gilbert OSB journey from Aberdeen to perform the ordination and offer wise words of wisdom.
