Baptism marks the initial step of initiation into the Church. It is a decision that should not be taken lightly but entered into with full knowledge of what the sacrament demands of both parents and Godparents. As such, at least one of the parents must be Catholic, and all chosen Godparents too – a letter of suitability will be requested from the Parish Priest of the church where the chosen Godparents practice their faith.
If you wish to have your child baptised at St Joseph’s you will need to contact the Parish Office to register your interest in the first instance. A brief course is also in place for first-time parents.
Owing to the schedule of Sunday masses, baptisms usually take place on a Saturday at 12noon. Please also note that baptisms do not take place during the season of Lent.
If you do not reside within the boundaries of St Joseph’s parish but, because of special reason or connection you wish the Baptism to take place in a Church outside your own parish, you will need the written permission of your Parish Priest.
