Allen Hall Seminary commemorated the Wednesday Community gathering with a Requiem Mass for the repose of Pope Francis’ soul. The Rector, Canon John O’Leary, offered the Mass and preached about learning from the life of the late Pope. Canon John recalled that when Pope Francis was asked who he was, during the early years of his papacy, he responded, ‘I am a sinner’. We can all relate to Pope Francis’ self-identification as a sinner and pray for God’s mercy to touch us personally and deeply so that our successes in life do not point away from the victorious Cross that Christ invites us to share with him.
The upcoming month of May is traditionally dedicated to the Virgin Mother of God, Mary, the patroness and protector of Christ’s Holy Church. We entrust the decisions of the conclave, the future of the papacy, and the lives of all humanity to the One whom Christ himself chose to be our Mother. We also pray for all the faithful departed that perpetual light may shine on them and their souls rest in peace.
