The Advent Season Begins

“Prepare a way for the Lord”.

– Matthew 3:3

In anticipation of switching to the New Lectionaries, the seminary community gathered for a blessing of the lectionaries. With the beginning of Advent, parishes throughout England & Wales will have implemented the new translation of Mass readings as part of the Church’s Liturgy. The blessing of these lectionaries reminds us that the Word of God holds a reverend & reserved place in the liturgy and our lives. We pray for a renewed & enlivened faith as these new translations expose us to the coming of Christ our Saviour and indeed the rest of our lives.

Each year, the Advent season calls us to a time of inner conversion as we hear the voice of one crying in the wilderness and the prophets’ pleas for us to seek repentance. As the Advent Wreath is blessed, we recall these symbols of Hope, Peace, Jubilation, & Charity which ignite the reality of our Salvation every single day. Even when these wax candles have melted, the Grace of God will help to prepare the way for Christ. A way of fire, light, and new life.

Mary, Mother of God – pray for us
