Church Planting

While many churches, particularly in Western countries, are affected by a sharp decline in religious practice, an increasing number of parishes are experiencing a true pastoral transformation. In the Anglican Communion, a hundred or so parishes have already been renewed by ‘Church Planting’ which involves the establishment of new places of worship or the rebuilding of declining parishes. St Barnabas Church, in the Kensington district of London, has been a pilot parish for more than 30 years for this innovative and missionary approach. Here, we address the essential elements for the process of planting or re-planting churches, an approach that can inspire all Christian denominations.
