Our Lady of Banneux

The Lady Chapel of St Thomas More is dedicated as a Shrine to Our Lady of Banneux, the Virgin of the Poor. In 1933, Our Lady appeared on seven occasions to a young girl, Mariette Beco, living in the small village of Banneux in Belgium. Where Our Lady appeared, a spring of water came forth out of a ditch and Our Lady said ‘this spring is reserved for all nations to relieve the sick*. The Shrine at Banneux has been a place of pilgrimage since 1949.

The statues of Our Lady in the Lady Chapel and outside the Church were given to the parish by the people of Limburg in Belgium in recognition of the devotion of Canon Davey (a former parish priest) to Our Lady of Banneux. The Rosary is said in the Lady Chapel every Monday evening and there is a pilgrimage to our Shrine in the month of May each year.
