Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVP)

The Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) was established in 1833 by a young Frenchman, Frederick Ozanam, to look after the poor, lonely and destitute in his native Paris. Since then, SVP branches, or Conferences as they are called, are to be found throughout the World. Frederick Ozanam was beatified in 1997.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul was set up in Paris in the 19th century by Blessed Frederick Ozanam and a group of friends.

The aim was to serve the poor and they called their group the Society of St Vincent de Paul based on the example set by the charitable life of St Vincent de Paul.

The SVP in Knebworth focuses mainly on visiting the elderly, lonely and housebound and offering help and advice to those in need.

If you are interested in getting further information about the society, please contact the parish office.
