Fr Cyril Chiaha Writes:

On Thursday of this week, we will commemorate the Solemnity of the Ascension of Jesus; recalling the glory of Jesus after his suffering and death, a glory in which we hope to share.

This feast, which also reminds us that we are more than earthbound creatures, reassures us of Jesus’ promise that God’s people will always be accompanied on earth, as His ascension is more about His presence; Christ, our Lord, is now everywhere and no longer confined physically to a particular location. For where two or three are gathered in His name, He is there in their midst (Matthew 18:20).

The key to accessing Jesus’ promise is in this world. As given in today’s gospel reading, it is found in keeping the Father’s commandment, in the love of God and neighbour. It is my hope that, in keeping the Father’s commandment, each of us will be able to expand our boundaries of love; ensuring that our love and acts of goodness helps in mitigating, if not eradicating, the human predicament. Have a blessed week!
