Old Hall Green Parish Update 5 June 2022

Old Hall Green Parish Update:

Dear Parishioner,

As you may know, the pandemic which resulted in the closure of the church has worsened the age-long problems of water ingress and dampness of the church floor in the parish church of St Edmund of Canterbury & English Martyrs Old Hall Green, as well as the need to remedy the legacy issues with the electrical supply and the heating.

We have now dealt with legacy issues with the electrical supply, resulting in two trenches being dug from St Edmunds college to both the church and the parish hall, new electrical supply cables laid and connected, new electrical points and fuse boxes fitted to enable efficient power supplies.

We are now in the process of solving the problem with the church floor and there seems to be
light at the end of the tunnel, thanks to the core drilling to the floor and various other research
– contractors/visitations.

I am pleased that the work at St Mary’s Villa, 77 High Street, Puckeridge, which includes remedial work to solve damp issues both internally and externally, the outside wall being rendered and painted, the damaged wooden fence posts and panels replaced with concrete posts and new panels has been completed.

As the works at Old Hall Green Church and St Mary’s Villa, 77 High Street, Puckeridge, were funded from the same account, it is prudent that the necessary heating/electrical works at Puckeridge church commences as soon as the work at St Edmund’s Old Hall Green, the parish church, is completed.

So, all Masses will continue to take place at St Richard of Chichester, Buntingford until the remedial works in the parish of Old Hall Green and Puckeridge are completed.
