The Catholic Churches in Stevenage

October 2020

OUR SPIRITUAL LIVES

and our daily lives continue under the stress, the challenges and restrictions of the global pandemic. At present less than half of our parishioners are coming out to Mass and we highly respect those who are staying home, protecting themselves from crowds and having the live streamed online Masses. Please be assured of our continued prayerful support at this challenging time.

OCTOBER THE MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY

The month of October is the month of the Holy Rosary, a time to turn to this great prayer to our Lady to seek her protection for our world at this difficult time.  The Feast of the Holy Rosary occurs on the 7th October.

BEATIFICATION OF YOUNG CARLO ACUTIS

Another special day for the worldwide Church is the 10th October, which sees the Beatification of a 15 year old boy Carlo Acutis in Assisi in Italy. Though Italian, Carlo was born in London in 1991 and moved as a child to Italy and died from leukaemia in 2006. A computer and internet expert from an early age he also demonstrated a powerful understanding of his faith.   The wonderful way he approached death and the miracles that have been worked through his intercession have led Pope Francis to beatify him and so bring him forward now for Sainthood.

God of salvation,

we turn to you with a prayer for protection and healing

as the coronavirus is spreading.

Help those who are sick as a result.

Grant patience to those who live in quarantine.

Give strength to all who care for the elderly and sick.

Inspire scientists in their research.

Strengthen between us the sense of togetherness.

Let no one be abandoned, make everyone feel safe together with You,

because You are compassion.

Through the intercession of Our Lady and the Saints

we thank you, present and faithful God,

You who live and love for ever and ever.  Amen

Fr Michael Doherty SDS (Parish Priest)

Fr Nigel Woollen (Assistant Priest)
