Waiting in Hope
Soon we will reach the great day of Easter when we can celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord. The solemn, penitential days of the Lenten season give way to the joyful song of Alleluia, since Jesus has conquered death and lives for ever!
“Faith in the resurrection of Jesus says that there is a future for every human being; the cry for unending life which is a part of the person is indeed answered. God exists: that is the real message of Easter. Anyone who even begins to grasp what this means also knows what it means to be redeemed.” (Benedict XVI)
Nature itself seems to join in the celebration, as the light evenings grow longer and the weather gets warmer (we hope). Of course, this year is in particular a time of waiting in hope, as we long for the day when life returns to normal after the pandemic. We continue to pray for our sick and for all carers, not forgetting those who are grieving at this time. May the Risen One bring consolation where most needed, and turn darkness into light, for he promised: “I am the resurrection. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:25-26).
In the Year of Saint Joseph, we join our prayers to those of this great father-figure and guardian of the Church, as we ask his protection with the beautiful prayer of Pope Francis:
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen
