Reconciliation — also known as Confession or Penance — is one of the most powerful and comforting gifts of the Catholic faith. It is the sacrament through which God forgives our sins and restores our relationship with Him.
No matter how long it has been since your last Confession, you are always welcome. God’s mercy has no limits, and our priests are here to help — without judgement and without pressure.
Why Reconciliation matters
Life is busy, and it is easy to drift. Reconciliation gives us the chance to pause, to be honest with ourselves and with God, and to begin again. Many people find it brings a profound sense of peace and renewed purpose — not just spiritually, but in everyday life too.
A simple guide to making a Confession
If it has been a while, here is a friendly step-by-step guide to help you feel at ease:
- Approach the priest and say: “Bless me Father for I have sinned. My last confession was [say when].”
- Share the things you feel sorry for or know to have been wrong.
- Finish by saying: “For these and any other sins I have forgotten, I am sorry.”
- The priest will suggest a Penance — perhaps a prayer or a kind act — to help make amends.
- Say an Act of Contrition:
“Oh my God, I am sorry for all my sins, for not loving others and not loving you. Help me to live like Jesus and not sin again. Amen.”
- The priest will offer absolution — the words of God’s forgiveness through the Church.
- Your Confession is complete. Go in peace.
