Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism

“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.'” (CCC 1213)

F.A.Q.s

  1. Why give a month notice?

We are asking for at least a month notice so we can do our best to accommodate your preferred date.

  1. How do I choose godparents?

Godparents have to be people you see as someone you look up to especially when it comes to faith and morals. You have to be sure they are over 16yo and are Confirmed Catholic living in good standard with the Catholic Teaching. You can have up to six Godparents.

  1. Why are other Christians witnesses and not Godparents?

As we celebrate the Baptism in the Catholic Church, Godparents have to be Catholic and therefore a non Catholic cannot be a Godparent. As witness we will not be adding their names on the Baptismal Register.

  1. What do we need to provide for the day of Baptism?

You would need a white garment that can be wrapped around your child’s shoulder i.e. a pashmina, a shawl or a blanket.

  1. What if we have to change date?

If you need to change date please inform the Parish Office asap and we can rearrange a date for you.

  1. When will I receive a Certificate?

If you wish to receive a certificate to commemorate your child’s Baptism please contact the Parish Office and one will be issued for you.

You can ask for a certificate at any time especially when it comes to school application or application to receive a Sacrament.

  1. Is there a fee?

As a Sacrament we would not charge an exact fee but we ask that you make a  donation to the Church for the use of the facilities. You can give your donation anytime before or after the Baptism to either the clergy or the Parish Secretary. If you wish to give your donation by cheque make sure it is made payable to WRCDT and please state at the back “Baptism (Surname)”.
