NEWSLETTER: 28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – 15th OCTOBER 2023

Fr Andrew writes…

I’d like to tell you a simple little story.  Shortly after I moved in to the parish and to Clergy House and I suppose at a time when I was having to get my head around all manner of new things and probably feeling a bit weary, I opened the front door one morning and stepped outside. Just at that moment a little Bengali boy (no more than five years old) came bowling down Pekin Street and marched right up to me with a big a smile and thrust out his hand for me to shake, saying “Good morning!”.

That simple little gesture from an innocent child moved me deeply, it felt as though God, through the community here, was saying, you are welcome, you are in the right place. In recent days following the violence and rising tensions in the Middle East and here at home, it strikes me that there may be many people feeling more anxious, less at home than ever. If that simple gesture from that little boy could have such an impact on me, imagine what might happen if every one of us did something similar this week. A smile, a friendly greeting, a handshake may not solve all of the world’s problems in one go but it can go a very long way.

God bless you all!
