Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is a significant milestone in our spiritual journey. In this sacrament, we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, knowledge, right judgment, understanding, courage, piety, and fear of the Lord. This sacred rite completes the Sacrament of Baptism, bringing us deeper into our faith.
Together, Baptism, the Eucharist, and Confirmation form the ‘Sacraments of Christian initiation,’ which are essential for fostering our spiritual growth. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1285) beautifully explains that the reception of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. Through Confirmation, we are more closely united with the Church and empowered with the Holy Spirit’s special strength. As true witnesses of Christ, we are called to spread and defend the faith through our words and actions.
Young people wishing to be confirmed after Easter are encouraged to present themselves as candidates for the annual parish confirmation programme. The candidates are usually between the ages of 14 to 16 at the time of enrolment. The confirmation programme is organised by Fr Jakub and is delivered by a team of catechists.
The course takes place on Mondays at 6:30pm in the crypt of the church.

Requirements to enrol in the course:
- You must live within the parish boundaries of
- St John the Evangelist, Islington; or
- The Blessed Sacrament, Copenhagen Street
- and/or have these churches as his/her common place of worship (*exceptions can be made with the written agreement of your local parish priest)
2. You must be 14 years old (or older) in June 2026, which is usually means they are in Year 9 at school.
3. You can commit to ALL the sessions highlighted in the 2026 Programme.
