Sacramental Preparation

Sacrament means ‘Sign of the Sacred’. The Catholic Church is a Sacramental Church. There are seven Sacraments entrusted to the Church by Jesus. These bring us closer to God. The Sacraments are arranged into three areas:

  1. Sacraments of Christian Initiation which are Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation
  2. Sacraments of Healing – Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick
  3. Sacraments of Service which are Martrimony and Ordination

Adults who are interested in becoming a Catholic follow course with other like minded individuals. This is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), which usually culminates at the Easter Vigil Mass. The timing, however, depends on the individual. When that person is ready, during Mass, they receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion and are fully embraced as a member of the Catholic Church.
