Welcome to St John the Evangelist,
Islington

Thanks for joining us!

We hope you will find here a warm and welcoming parish community where we encourage everyone to grow in their faith and connect with others. There are a variety of services, programs and events which might support you in your journey at this time. Whether you’re new to the area or searching for a spiritual home, we’d love to walk with you.

Do explore our website to learn more about ways to get involved. Feel free to contact the parish office or the priests here if there is something you want to chat about. And stop by after Mass to introduce yourself to the priest. We look forward to seeing you!

Blessings,

Fr. Rajiv Michael

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect to happen when I arrive?

Please come along to one of the Sunday Masses and if you want to, introduce yourself to one of the priests’s afterwards. They’re quite friendly and don’t bite…much. Most of the Masses are quiet and reflective but if you like music, then come along to the Sunday 12 noon Mass. There’s a choir and the organ is a rare species played by our professional organist, Adrian. We sometimes have music at our 10am Mass too.

In addition to Mass, we have lots of events and once a month, after the 10am Mass, a coffee morning. We’re still developing our website but you can find our Mass times here and pictures of our cheesy Parish Team on this site too.

We’d really appreciate it if you could complete this form so that we have a better idea of who you are.

Can I bring in my coffee or any food?

We kindly ask you not to consume any food or drink in the church – please finish your coffee in the foyer (the space outside the church). If you’re coming for Mass and receiving Communion, the Church asks you to fast for an hour before Communion, so please do take that also into consideration.

Is there a dress code?

We don’t have an official dress code and leave it to your discretion. You may want to take into account that you’re coming into God’s House and the fact that this is a place of worship and dress in an appropriate manner so it’s not a cause of distraction to others, perhaps. It’s a long tradition that men do not wear hats or any head covering within the church (women can and often do).

Are babies, little kids and seniors welcome?

Of course! Jesus welcomes all especially babies, kids, the more senior and everyone in between. There’s a bathroom facility, ramp access into the church and a hearing loop. There’s a Family Mass at 10am but all ages are welcome at all Masses. List of Mass times can be found here.

Do you have programmes or events for children?

We have First Holy Communion classes and Confirmation classes. Further details of these Sacraments can be found here. We’d love to hold a Children’s Liturgy but we need volunteers. This is your parish so feel free to help out!
