10th March – Fourth Sunday of Lent, also known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare means ‘rejoice’, as we pause in our Lenten observances of fasting, and look forward to Easter Sunday and the joy of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Mothering Sunday, three weeks before Easter Sunday, originated in the Middle Ages, when children who had left their families to work in domestic service were allowed to go to their home – or “mother” – church. it grew into a Spring occasion for families to reunite, when children would pick flowers on the way home as a gift for their mother, and a day when simnel cakes were traditionally baked.
