GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS DURING THE PANDEMIC

The Sunday Obligation to attend Mass remains suspended during the pandemic and no one should feel guilty for not attending Mass. Please do spread the word around the parish that Mass with a congregation is still being celebrated and people need to book to attend Mass, until such time as the bishop mandates closure of the church based on HM Govt instruction or I make a local decision to do so.

Because of social distancing and reduced capacity in the church, you need to book for all Masses. You can do that by going to the EVENTS page on the left-hand side of this website.

PLEASE DO NOT COME TO MASS WITHOUT A BOOKING.

Please wear a mask correctly fitted to cover your nose and mouth when in the church, unless you are legally exempted and please use the sanitizer at the entrance. Please follow the guidance given at all times by the stewards. You are asked to be mindful of the importance of social distancing when entering and exiting the church and processing up for the reception of holy communion.

All Masses are livestreamed, including other services and events as advertised nearer the time.

Masses may be subject to cancellation unexpectedly during the period of the pandemic, especially when it is necessary to accommodate increasing numbers of funerals. DO CHECK THIS WEBSITE BEFORE YOU COME TO MASS ON WEEKDAYS AND SUNDAYS IN CASE MASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Please do not attend funeral Masses unless you are personally invited by next of kin, as they are limited in law to a maximum of 30 mourners and regretfully you will be denied entry.

You should assess your own personal risk in attending Mass, as you may consider the risk too great to yourself if you have an underlying health condition, despite our church having a Covid-19 risk assessment in place to ensure reasonably practicable health and safety. Our church is deep-cleaned by professional contract cleaners several times per week and spot-cleaned by our stewards after Mass.

TIMES OF MASS:
Please see the EVENTS page for availability of Masses. Please DO NOT come to church without a prior booking either made online or by ringing Shirley Bailey, our parish administrator in the Hemel West Parish Office.

St Mark’s, our church at Warners End, is currently not in use during the period of the suspension of the Sunday and Holyday of Obligation. All Hemel West parishioners are encouraged to attend Mass at the parish church in Boxmoor, St Mary & St Joseph. We look forward to seeing you!

You can pick up links to our latest newsletter and livestreamed Mass to the left of this page

Do check this website for regular updates and sign up for e-alerts!

We’re keen to hear from you, so please feel free to contact us!

We are one of two parishes in the town of Hemel Hempstead.  Fr Kim Addison is the parish priest of Hemel East.  Our parishes co-operate on certain matters.  For historical reasons each parish has two churches.

The parish of Hemel West is comprised of two churches. The parish church, Ss Mary & Joseph’s in St. John’s Road, BOXMOOR HP1 1NR and St. Mark’s church in Hollybush Lane, WARNERS END which is located in the grounds of John F Kennedy (JFK) Catholic Secondary School, HP1 2PH. The parish of Hemel West was created in 2019 by the merger of two parishes, St Mary & St Joseph’s and St Mark’s.
