2025-26 Program Registration Opens After Easter 2025

Welcome Parents,
The journey to your child’s First Holy Communion is an important and joyful step in their spiritual life. It is a time to deepen their faith, strengthen their relationship with God, and fully participate in the Eucharist. We are here to support you and your family as you prepare for this Sacred Sacrament.
What Is First Holy Communion?
First Holy Communion is a significant moment in the life of a Catholic child. It marks the first time they receive the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, in the form of bread and wine. Through this sacrament, your child will become more fully united with Christ and the Church. It is a profound step in their journey of faith, and your guidance is crucial in helping them understand and appreciate this sacred milestone.
When Should I Register My Child?
Children typically prepare for First Holy Communion around the ages of 7 or 8, but readiness may vary depending on their understanding of the faith. If your child is approaching this age, now is the perfect time to register them for preparation. It’s important to register early to ensure they receive the necessary instruction and formation leading up to their First Communion.
To register your child, please fill out our online registration form found in the parish newsletter or at the top of this page during registration season. Registration opens after May Half Term and runs to the first week of September.
How Can I Help Prepare My Child?
As parents, you play a vital role in preparing your child for their First Holy Communion. Here are some ways to support their journey:
- Attend Mass Together: Regular attendance at Sunday Mass is one of the best ways to help your child understand the importance of the Eucharist. Talk to them about what happens during Mass and encourage them to participate fully.
- Attend Classes Together: At least one parent is expected to be at classes with your child. This is to help facilitate discussion about faith with your little one.
- Pray Together: Teach your child simple prayers, such as the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary, and prayers of gratitude. Make prayer a regular part of your family’s routine.
- Talk About the Sacraments: Help your child understand the meaning of the Eucharist. Explain how receiving the body and blood of Christ brings them closer to God and the Church community.
- Lead by Example: Show your child the importance of faith in your own life. Children learn best through example, so let them see how much the sacraments mean to you.
What Does the Preparation Program Involve?
Our First Holy Communion preparation program is designed to help your child understand the meaning of the Eucharist and the Mass, while also deepening their relationship with Jesus. The program typically includes:
- Catechesis (Faith Formation Classes): These classes are led by experienced catechists who will teach your child about the sacraments, the life of Jesus, and the significance of the Eucharist. Lessons are interactive and designed to engage children in ways they can understand.
- First Reconciliation (Confession): Before receiving the Eucharist, children will also prepare for and celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This sacrament helps them understand the importance of forgiveness and starting anew in their relationship with God.
- Children’s Mass: On the last Saturday of the month, candidates for First Holy Communion and their families are invited to take part in a mass where Father will be specifically addressing them and their journey of faith. It is an excellent opportunity for the candidates to get to explore the mass on a deeper level.

The Big Day: What to Expect
First Holy Communion is a joyful celebration for your entire family. The day will typically include:
- A Special Mass: Your child will receive the Eucharist during a beautiful Mass celebrated with their classmates and families.
- Dressing for the Occasion: It is traditional for children to wear special attire for First Communion. Boys often wear a suit or dress pants with a white shirt, and girls typically wear a white dress and veil. These outfits symbolize the sacraments link to baptism, purity and joy on this sacred day.
- Photos and Celebrations: Many families choose to mark this special day with family photos and gatherings. While the day is a joyful occasion, remember that the most important aspect is your child’s encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist.
Continuing the Journey
First Holy Communion is just the beginning of your child’s lifelong journey with Christ. Encourage them to continue receiving the Eucharist regularly, attend Mass, and grow in their faith through prayer, service, and learning.
