Confirmation is one of the sacraments of initiation (along with Baptism and Eucharist) – the means whereby we become full members of the Church.  In the early Church, children were rarely received into the faith, so an adult who showed a real commitment to the Christianity would be baptised, confirmed and receive the Eucharist at the same ceremony.

Nowadays Confirmation is separated ritually from Baptism, but not sacramentally.  The sacraments are received at different stages in the journey of faith but remain intrinsically linked. Confirmation completes the process, as it were.  When a person is confirmed, it is the official recognition by the community – represented by the bishop – of their place in the Church, the Body of Christ.  It signifies a mature and adult acceptance of faith and a commitment to live out that faith in daily life.

In Hemel Hempstead Confirmation is offered to young people in year 9 or above.  We share a  joint Confirmation course with the other four churches in Hemel Hempstead.

Confirmation 2021

Confirmation Programme 2021
We will be running Confirmation classes for new candidates this year. While a date for receiving the sacrament has not yet been set because of Covid 19, classes will begin on 10th February 2021. They will run on a Wednesday night via zoom or google meet, start at 5pm and run until 6pm.  The course will be 8 online classes running weekly until the 31st March. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will take place as part of the course and there is an expectation to attend mass weekly as part of the programme, unless this is not possible on account of the current pandemic. Presently it looks unlikely we will be able to arrange a pilgrimage/retreat. We will be having an information evening in January for parents and Carers. Registrations are open until 30th January. Please email to register for the parents evening, receive a registration form or ask further questions. God bless. Callum Moore Leader of Youth Ministry for the Catholic Parishes of Hemel and John F.
