Parish Volunteer and Social Groups

Our faith community can be nourished by active participation in parish volunteer groups and the various parish social groups and activities that meet for prayer, social action, Sacramental preparation, youth work and the support of others in the life the Church and wider community. To share our lives in these ways allows us to offer ourselves and draw strength from each other.

Please see below the various parish volunteer groups and contact details for the volunteer group leaders.

Making Music

The Choir of St Luke’s can be traced back to Fr. Wilfred Trotman, who himself was a prominent organist and composer. Re-established in 2023, the choir sings at the 11AM Sunday mass as well as during major solemnities in the Liturgical Year. With a steadily growing repertoire, including that of Victoria, Elgar and Wesley, the choir works and serves on the principle of “they that sing, pray double”.  Tied in with this is the notion that liturgical music is not a mere form of entertainment but indeed an illustration of the beautiful sacrifice of the Mass. To achieve this, liturgical music at St Luke’s comprises also of a rich organ repertoire, with works of Bach, Widor, Mendelssohn and many others matched appropriately to the liturgical season.
The choir is currently made up Sopranos, Altos and Basses (yes – we want you here Tenors!) and rehearses every Monday evening at 7:30PM and prior to the 11AM Sunday Mass.
Please contact [TBD] if you are interested in joining our Choir.

The Folk Group leads the singing at the 9.00 a.m. Sunday Masses and at additional Masses over Easter and Christmas. We compile a rota for singers and musicians, which is very flexible, to fit in with family and other commitments. We are a very friendly and inclusive group. If you can sing or if you can play an instrument to a good standard and would like to join, please contact gailhovey@hotmail.com. There are no rehearsal commitments. Those on the rota just turn up at Church at 8:30 a.m. on Sundays to set up and have a quick practice before Mass.

If you are free on Thursday afternoons, 2-4pm then please come and join our sociable and friendly group. Beginners welcome or even come for a chat and a cup of tea. Looking forward to meeting you in the Parish Centre, Thursday afternoons, 2-4pm. Donations of any unused/unwanted knitting wool greatly appreciated.  Please hand these into the Parish Office.
