MASS INTENTIONS
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO ‘BOOK A MASS’?
Anyone may request a Mass to be offered for their specified intention.
These are most often dedicated for the deceased to rest in peace, but may also be offered for other intentions such as thanksgiving for a blessing, on a special anniversary, or birthday, or for recovery from illness etc.
You may also request a Mass for a ‘Private Intention’.
Mass intentions are listed each week in the parish newsletter (The Chronicle) and displayed on the front door of the church.
At the beginning of the Mass, the priest will usually state the Mass intention. The congregation are encouraged to pray for that particular intention, in addition to their own intentions.
A donation is traditionally offered by the person requesting the Mass.
The amount is optional, but the Archbishop of Westminster has suggested a guide of £10 per Mass in this diocese. ( Please gift aid if possible. )
These offerings contribute to the general running of the church and her work.
There is a limit of one intention request per Mass – however, a single request may include more than one person (eg: prayers for a couple or a family).
By Church Law, 1 Sunday Mass every week must always be celebrated reserved for all the People of our Parish – those living and those deceased; all Catholics and all those who live here but who do not (yet) share our True Faith.

MASS CARDS
You may choose to send a Mass card to inform someone of your Mass intention. These Mass cards are available from the parish shop or presbytery ( price £1 ) and can be signed by a priest on request.

If you would like to book a mass, please complete and return one of the blue ‘MASS INTENTION REQUEST’ forms, available at the back of the church and deliver it to the presbytery office. You can include an offering/donation as cash or cheque (made payable to: St Edmund’s Whitton) or donate online at:
