The St. Vincent de Paul Society (aka: the SVP) is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need – irrespective of ideology, faith, ethnicity, age or gender.
Befriending people in need is at the heart of what we do. Individuals or families are made known to the society by neighbours, parishioners and the parish priest. Volunteer members, motivated by their Christian faith, seek to offer them sincere friendship. They visit them in their homes, in hospital and in care homes on a regular basis, sometimes for many years, and offer additional practical support.
