Prayer life

The celebration of the Mass is central to the life of every parish. The Sunday morning 9:45 Mass and 11:15 Family Mass are both sung while the Masses on Saturday evening at 6:30pm and Sunday evening at 7pm are quieter. There is normally Mass on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday morning.

Since praying together as a community is a traditional part of the Church’s way of life which we are all invited to share, Daily Prayer from the Divine Office is prayed before weekday morning Mass using the free Universalis App.

There are other forms of devotional prayer with a long history in the Catholic Church. Here at St. Peter’s, the Rosary is usually prayed after morning Mass on Tuesday and Friday and there is normally Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction after morning Mass on Wednesday and Friday. During the season of Lent, a series of Ecumenical Stations of the Cross in local churches take the place of the Friday evening Holy Hour. See the notices in the Newsletter for times.

St Peter’s has two prayer groups that meet regularly, the Life Ascending Group for our senior members and the Padre Pio Group.

Of course, personal prayer is also essential to building and maintaining our relationship with God both as individuals and within the family. While this is just too wide an area to try and cover comprehensively here, we do provide notes on praying with the Bible and weekly notes to help us reflect on the Sunday scripture readings.
