Baptism

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and your decision to bring them up in the faith you practice.

Now before you do anything else (like arrange family travel plans and party venues), please see Monsignor Roger after Mass to arrange a meeting to complete the paperwork and consider suitable dates in the future.

In the meantime, at least one parent should contact the parish of your Baptism and get a Baptism certificate if you don’t have one at home. And think about at least one sponsor (godparent) for your child: this person must be over 16, Confirmed (ask them now to get a copy of their certificate), attend Mass every week (ask them now to get a certificate of attendance from their parish priest), and cannot be one of the child’s parents. Catholics who have not been Confirmed or who do not attend Mass cannot take on this role. Non-Catholics who have been Baptised can be admitted as “Christian witnesses” to the Baptism.

The Church requires that at least one parent attends a preparation course (but both are welcome as are the sponsors) which we run on various Saturdays from 11:00am to 12:30pm several times a year.
