Fr John Elliott RIP – funeral arrangements on Wednesday 18 October 2017

Please, pray for Fr John who died on Saturday, 30th September 2017.

The Funeral Mass will be at St Mary’s church, Julian Road, Bath BA1 2SF on Wednesday 18 October at 12 noon followed by a cremation.

Bishop Nicholas Hudson will preside and Fr James High will preach. Fr John’s mortal remains will be received at the same church on Tuesday 17 October at 5.30pm and a Requiem Mass will follow at 6pm .

For those who have decided to go by coach organized by our parish

We will gather in front of St Edmund’s church at 7.20 am on Wednesday to set off at 7.30 am sharp. We expect to reach the destination no later than 11.30 am. The journey includes one stop for a coffee or toilet.

After the Funeral Mass some free time will be given for lunch and we are supposed to start the journey back at 3.30 pm.

Flowers arrangements: Our Parish will send a bouquet of flowers to the church. However, there is a suggestion from Fr John’s family that donations made to the Bristol Royal Infirmary are welcome instead of flowers.

Coach cost: the parish will pay for the rent of the coach £550. We are not asking for a fixed amount of money for the journey from those who are traveling, but a donation towards the cost, as much as one can give.

For those who cannot attend in person

Not everyone can go to Father John’s funeral. We would therefore like to offer the following option for anyone who wants to pay their respects to Father John but are unable to attend his funeral. Please pray for him, either by saying the Rosary, or by offering one or more Hail Mary’s, dedicated in his honour. The best time to offer your prayers would be at or shortly after 12 Noon on the 18th of October, but anytime after midday on the day of his funeral would honour his memory.

We take this opportunity to say this prayer for Father John, who was taken from our community very suddenly due to poor health and who has now been as equally suddenly taken from this world. We pray in gratitude that he has now been freed from all the earthly pains and ill-health that tormented him in his last years. We pray in happiness for the time he spent with us and remember the constant guidance and steadfast example he set us in service to God. We pray in joy that he has been united with Christ, as he always wanted, and has now reached his final resting place. We pray in hope that we will one day meet him again. Amen.
