THE UNION OF CATHOLIC MOTHERS

St Michael and St Martin’s Foundation

Founded in 1957

We are part of a National Organisation of Catholic Women, open to all women who support our aims and objectives in ‘prayer, love and active witness to marriage, family and Christian life in the world’ (from our membership prayer).

Further information: www.theucm.org.uk

  1. To help Catholic women to appreciate the Sacramental character, responsibilities and permanence of marriage and to live in unselfish love observing the laws of God and His Church.
  2. To assist them to bring up their children as practising Catholics and public-spirited citizens.
  3. To teach and defend Christian values in family life and to ensure Catholic education for future generations.
  4. To offer love, sympathy and practical help to the family in difficulty.
  5. To foster vocations in life especially in Christian marriage and family life and in the priesthood and religious life.

The Foundation offers friendship and fellowship with a blend of spiritual and social activities. Through unity with other members both locally, diocesan and nationally, greater influence can be exerted on things that affect marriage and family life. Some Foundation members are readers, ushers, Eucharist minsters, counters, bankers, flower arrangers and help with church cleaning. Support CAFOD, Justice and Peace Campaigns plus funding raising for Charities.

The UCM meets twice a month during the school term on the 2nd Tuesday after 9am Mass and the 4th Tuesday at 7pm. At the UCM, family come first, therefore the odd meeting may have to be missed as a result. Each meeting begins with the UCM prayer. Our Foundation is affiliated with the Westminster Diocese’s UCM which hold quarterly meetings plus an Annual Mass and a Study Day. Members are encouraged to participate in these events.

Each year members are invited to attend the National Annual pilgrimage to Walsingham on the 1st Tuesday in July. There is also a National Study Day and National Council to which members are welcome.

Subscriptions Members pay an annual capitation fee, set by the National Committee and the Diocese. In return, you will receive three issues of UCM News each year. At each meeting, the Foundation requests a small donation to cover the cost of tea, coffee, and contribute towards the National Holiday and Rest Homes.
