Pilgrims on a journey

The first week of September saw our parishes celebrating two Jubilee Year Pilgrimage Walks.

On Wednesday 3rd September Our Lady’s Parish hosted 8 pilgrms walking the St John’s Way, as part of the national Jubilee Walk from four corners of the country ending together on Saturday 12th September at Nottingham Cathedral. The group were welcomed with a cup of tea and some cake by our Faith and Friendship Group, then were shown to their rooms, set up with camp beds donated by parishioners, celebrated Mass together with some parishioners and then had a beautiful 3 course dinner cooked and served by a group of volunteers. They set off the next morning refreshed and full of energy as they continued their journey along the Canal to their next stop in Berkhamsted, 16 miles away!

Then on Saturday 6th September our parishes went on our own pilgrimage, walking the Westminster Way. Nearly 60 parishioners started the 5 mile (ish!) walk at The English Martyr’s Church in Tower Hill, walking through sites and visiting Churches linked to the saints and martyrs of London, ending at Westminster Cathedral. At each stop we marked our Pilgrim Passports with a special stamp for the pilgrimage. It was a long but beautiful day, where we had a chance to learn about those who have given witness to our faith in London in the past, we discovered new areas of London (thanks to Fr Andrew’s incredible knowledge of every road we walked down!), and even managed to have an autumn ice-cream in St James’ Park!
