First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion

holy communion

Children wishing to be prepared for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion must be baptised Roman Catholics and they and their parent(s) must attend Mass every Sunday in the parish.

Discerning when your child is ready to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist is an important factor in their, and your, journey of faith. The Church also has a role in discerning readiness. Receiving the sacraments is not about reaching a certain age – a rite of passage – but about recognising your child’s, and your family’s understanding of what it is to be part of the Church family and a willingness to participate fully in the Church’s life. The gateway to beginning this preparation is signing up for our monthly Family Catechesis Growing in Faith Together (GIFT). This catechesis will give the parent(s) and the parish a chance to help discern the right moment for the children to receive the Sacraments and further information about how they can be prepared for this will be given at this point.
