Visiting Walsingham

On Saturday 24th September a group of parishioners across our three parishes travelled to Walsingham to join the annual Westminster diocesan pilgrimage led by Cardinal Vincent Nichols. The Cardinal celebrated Mass at the National Basilica of Our Lady of Walsingham where he talked about the joys of Mary, in her nurturing her child, in seeing the risen Christ, in being present at Pentecost with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and in being crowned as Queen of Heaven. After Mass and a quick pause for a picnic lunch, we processed down the Holy Mile to the ruins of Walsingham Abbey, where the original shrine was situated. We were blessed with a heavy downpour during the walk, before the sun came out as we finished our prayers with Benediction. On our long journey home, as we dried out, we all agreed we had received many blessings from the pilgrimage and we hope this was the start of many such journeys together over the coming years.
