Our home is – literally – on fire

Our home is – literally – on fire. We just broke the record for the warmest week in history. And July will be the warmest month this planet has seen in modern history, and plausibly the past 100,000 years!
Many regions across Asia, North America, and Europe have surpassed the 122°F / 50°C milestone. An Iranian town even experienced a heat index of 152°F / 66.7°C a few days ago. Unlivable. Hell on earth.
Enough is enough.

The extreme heat is pillaging our communities, contributing to severe droughts and massive wildfires, melting polar ice caps that are gradually flooding coastal towns, damaging or killing plants, crops, and animals, and causing unsafe levels of heat exposure and air pollution. Put differently, and more directly, this means that people and all of creation are dying or getting sick, houses are lost, and children are denied a safe future where they can even go outside.
These are just some of the impacts of the extreme heat experienced right now throughout the Northern hemisphere, including here in boiling Rome.

Yet, there still is hope. Our movement is meeting a critical need of the Church to respond to the climate and ecological crises. LSM is helping Catholic individuals and organizations take individual and collective action. As a result, we aim to create a ripple effect for them to inspire and mobilize their communities to take action until we’ve reached all 1.3 billion Catholics in the world!
We need to take action now. You can help today by making a donation and getting us one step closer to saving our common home.Donate $5, $20, $40, or $100
Your support allows LSM to carry out its free of charge programs such as the docu-film The Letter for millions of viewers, Laudato Si’ Animators formation for thousands of leaders, and circles and chapters programs to empower and connect Catholics to take action in a way that’s most meaningful to them and their communities. LSM also provides helpful free tools, guides, and educational resources such as (1) sample letters to encourage divestment, (2) prayer resources to nourish our ecological spirituality, or (3) ways to green your parish and much more
Please donate today, to help expand these programs even further. Our dear Mother Earth and all of God’s creation cannot wait another day. If a donation is not possible, we count on you to keep participating in our initiatives with your generous time and commitment.
Thank you for your consideration. And we remain united in prayer and solidarity with those affected by the heatwave crisis.
God bless,
