Welcome to Our Lady Catholic Primary School

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Our Lady Catholic Primary School.  Situated in the bustling market town of Hitchin, we are a thriving and popular single form entry primary school. We are an academy and form part of The Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust (DoWAT). We are a welcoming, vibrant and happy school offering a distinctively Catholic education in an inclusive environment, welcoming children and staff of all faiths and none.

I feel incredibly proud to be the Head Teacher at Our Lady Catholic Primary School. It is a privilege to lead such a wonderful and progressive school community, and I along with all staff, are continually striving for excellence and enjoyment. Our pupils are encouraged and supported to be independent, motivated and resilient lifelong learners who are confident to reach their full potential. We are relentless in our drive and ambition to continually improve upon, and better, our previous best.

Every member of our school community lives by our vision, “to inspire all to achieve their best every day” and we aim do this by keeping Christ and our mission statement at the centre of all that we do.

Every child at Our Lady Catholic Primary School, made in God’s image and likeness, is unique and holds many gifts and talents which we value and celebrate and it is through an effective partnership between school, home and church that we aim to discover and develop these.

We are committed to working closely with our families and the parish, not only to provide the very best for our children’s learning, but to also help our pupils make sense of their faith and their relationships with God, with each other and with the wider community in which they live.

Our Lady is a school of which we are all proud. The governors, staff and I are committed to making Our Lady School a happy and friendly learning environment where all pupils and adults can flourish and achieve their dreams and goals.

Our pupils enjoy their learning in a caring atmosphere where they feel safe, secure and valued and where lifetime friendships are made. It is a place where children are at the heart of every decision we make. We strive to foster a love of learning through an inclusive approach that enables everyone, from our youngest to oldest, most able to least able, to flourish and succeed both now and in the future.

We encourage and welcome visits to our inspiring school community. Our School learning ambassadors would be delighted to show you around our school of which we are all very proud.

Appointments can be made through the school office.

Our Lady Catholic Primary School Ofsted Report 2022

Please find below Our Lady Catholic Primary School’s most recent Ofsted report.

Our Lady School was inspected in July 2022 and it gives me great pleasure to share that Her Majesty’s inspector and team found the school to be ‘Good’ across all categories in the inspection framework.

We are all delighted that the hard work undertaken by the Our Lady School staff, children and community has been recognised, including the comments regarding positive relationships and our friendly and welcoming school, high expectations that the children live up to these and happy, polite and respectful pupils that enjoy learning.

The report itself is very detailed and highlights the many elements of effective provision at Our Lady School as well as the next steps needed to take the school forward. What is satisfying is that the next steps were already identified by leaders and will be a priority in our school development plan for this academic year.

Please take the time to read the inspection report in full as it evidences a school that is not only good, but one that continuously strives to improve and excel.

In summary, this is an excellent report, particularly at a time when the benchmark for ‘Good’ is at the highest level it has ever been and we have been acknowledged as ensuring keeping pupils safe is at the centre of everything adults do in school.

I thank all those involved in the inspection itself, especially the staff, Governors, Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust and the pupils who shone during the inspection process and continue to make a positive contribution to school life.

I couldn’t be more proud of where we are today and look forward to our journey ahead. The future is bright for Our Lady School!

Yours gratefully
