Trees in Our Grounds

March 25th. The Feast of the Annunciation, the beginning of new life!
As Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote in ‘May Magnificat’

Flesh and fleece, fur and feather,
Grass and greenworld all together.

It seemed like a day for looking at the swelling buds on trees. True, the plane trees, although their buds were swelling ,were too excited by the wind to be photographed except as fuzzy blurs but the apples, pears, walnuts and silver birch were beautiful against the end wall of the WCC. Under my feet were primrose, violet and celandines and the promise of other wildflowers, their leaves new and small. Bees and flies were already about.
